Hi, I'm Shelley -- welcome to sevengrams!

Montreal raised, yet currently living in Toronto, ON, I'm an architect (stagiaire) by day and glued to my kitchen at night and on weekends. My time in the kitchen is more then just cooking; its an opportunity to relax, disconnect from work and get creative with seasonal produce, flavours and textures. If I'm being totally honest, it's also an excuse to host dinner parties - because I love nothing more then good friends and family gathering over a delicious home cooked meal.

The idea for this blog, or online recipe collection as I like to call it, started a little while back during my stint with 'fun-employment' -- the unique lull between grad school and starting a new job. I suddenly had all this newly acquired free time, spent quite a bit of it in the kitchen, and wanted a way to document the dishes I was creating. The first iteration of this site was a simple tumblr photo feed, based purely on (low-res) iphone photos. I soon realized that I wanted more -- more substance, better organization and an excuse to use my SLR. So, with a little encouragement from N, a lazy long weekend with tons of free time and a whole lot of online tutorials, the new site was born.

sevengrams is a combination of recipes I've developed, and recipes that have been adapted from others. I often find myself looking at recipe titles or photos, and drawing inspiration from there, modifying and tweaking based on what I have in the fridge or pantry. I urge you to do the same with my site - keep things loose, simple, and fun and always remember to love your time in the kitchen!

Happy cooking!
